EDITORIAL POLICY

The recommendation is ours to make.

ThreeNearMe considers evidence, context and category-relevant factors before publishing three recommendations. Businesses, readers and commercial partners can provide useful information, but they do not control inclusion, position or editorial reasoning.

Evidence informs Judgement decides Payment stays separate

How We Choose

Editorial independence

Editorial decisions belong to ThreeNearMe.

Businesses can provide information. Readers can provide information. Commercial relationships can exist where they are clearly separated. Evidence can change. None of those things gives another party control over the final recommendation.

Participation can inform the process. It does not control the outcome.

Evidence & judgement

Evidence informs the recommendation.

ThreeNearMe may consider public information, business-provided facts, reputation evidence, category-relevant factors, location context and other credible information. The question is not simply whether information exists, but what it can fairly support.

  • Public information
  • Business information
  • Reputation patterns
  • Category context
  • Location relevance

Structured criteria can help comparison, but Top Three selections are not produced automatically by a formula. Context matters, evidence quality varies, categories differ, and final editorial judgement remains necessary.

EDITORIAL INDEPENDENCE

Top Three positions are not for sale.

ThreeNearMe may earn revenue through advertising, sponsorship, Spotlight content or other separated commercial opportunities where they are appropriately supported. Those activities stay outside Top Three editorial decisions.

Commercial content should be identifiable as commercial content. It should not be presented as though it were a Top Three editorial recommendation.

  1. No paid inclusion

A business cannot purchase a place in the Top Three.

  2. No paid position

Payment, sponsorship, advertising or Spotlight interest cannot buy or improve editorial position.

  3. No paid reasoning

Commercial relationships cannot buy favourable recommendation wording or alter the reasons behind a selection.

  4. Commercial content stays identifiable

Advertising and Spotlight content should be recognisable as commercial content, not presented as a Top Three editorial recommendation.

What information can do

Useful information can inform review. It cannot command a result.

ThreeNearMe welcomes relevant information because better facts can lead to better editorial decisions. But information from a reader, business or commercial partner is still reviewed by ThreeNearMe.

  1. Business information can help.

A business can provide factual context about services, locations, capabilities or current details. ThreeNearMe reviews that information alongside other available evidence.

  2. Reader information can help.

Readers can send factual corrections, useful context or relevant new information. Requests alone do not determine selection, position, removal or wording.

  3. Evidence is assessed, not counted as votes.

More submissions, louder requests or commercial participation do not automatically win. The editorial question is what the evidence supports in context.

Corrections & reconsideration

Facts can be corrected. Recommendations can be reconsidered.

A factual correction can update published factual information when the available evidence supports the change. Meaningful new evidence may also justify another look at an existing recommendation.

Factual correction

Corrects or updates a published fact when the evidence supports it.

Editorial reconsideration

May happen when new evidence changes the picture, but it does not guarantee inclusion, position, removal or favourable wording.

Practical correction guidance lives on Corrections.

Publication & accountability

Recommendations can change when the evidence changes.

Businesses change, services change, availability changes and stronger information can emerge. Published recommendations are therefore not treated as permanent. ThreeNearMe remains responsible for the final editorial judgement and for keeping published reasoning grounded in the evidence it relies on.

Public reasons should explain the editorial basis for a selection without publishing every private note, raw score, source record, confidential communication or security detail.

Policy & methodology

Policy sets the boundaries. Methodology explains how we choose.

Editorial Policy states the principles that govern every ThreeNearMe recommendation: independence, evidence, judgement, commercial separation, correction and accountability. Methodology explains the public process for researching, comparing, reviewing and publishing three recommendations.

THE PRINCIPLE

Independent judgement is the point.

ThreeNearMe exists to narrow a wider field to three considered recommendations. That only remains useful if the final editorial decision is independent of payment, pressure and participation.
